About Us

Baitul Maal New Zealand was established by the Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand (FIANZ) in 2011 to resurrect the Islamic Baitul Maal ("House of wealth") system for the collection and distribution of Islamic charity and to introduce to New Zealand the concept of Waqf (perpetual trust for charitable purposes). FIANZ continues to provide invaluable financial and operational support to Baitul Maal New Zealand.

We work with trusted organisations in New Zealand and overseas to ensure that all Islamic charity paid to us reaches the intended recipients effectively and efficiently. For example, in Ramadan 2022G/1443H we collected and distributed NZD 100,000 for needy Muslims (locally and internationally).

We are a member of an international network of organisations operating Awqaf (plural of Waqf) funds and assets with whom we share knowledge and information. We were honoured that our re-launch event on 26 March 2022 included two international keynote speakers: Zeinoul Abedien Cajee and Dato Hj Mohamad Marzuki Mohamad Omar. Zeinoul Abedien Cajee is the founder and CEO of the National Awqaf Foundation of South Africa. Dato Hj Mohamad Marzuki Mohamad Omar is the Honorary Secretary General, Regional Islamic Da’wah Council of Southeast Asia and the Pacific.
