Pay Zakat ul-mal to purify your wealth

“Zakat ul-mal is one of the five pillars of Islam. It is associated with Salah (prayer) in eighty-two verses of the Quran,” said Mohammed Afiz, Chairperson of Baitul Maal New Zealand.

“Many people choose to pay Zakat ul-mal during Ramadhan to multiply their rewards, although it is due one Islamic year after the Nisab (threshold) value has been reached.”

“In Ramadhan 2022G/1443H Baitul Maal New Zealand collected and distributed NZ $100,000 in Islamic charity for needy Muslims locally and internationally, including Zakat ul-mal.”

Baitul Maal New Zealand was established by the Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand (FIANZ) in 2011 to resurrect the Islamic Baitul Maal (“House of wealth”) system for the collection and distribution of Islamic charity and to introduce to New Zealand the concept of Waqf (perpetual trust for charitable purposes).
