With the blessings of Allah the Most Glorified, the Most High, Baitul Maal New Zealand had its biggest year of charity collection and distribution and doubled its previous Ramadhan record.
“Alhamdolillah, Baitul Maal New Zealand collected more than NZD 250,000 over eleven months. This included more than NZD 200,000 in Ramadhan 2023G/1444H. That was double the amount collected the previous year,” said Mohammed Afiz, Chairperson of Baitul Maal New Zealand.
From March 2023 to January 2024 Baitul Maal New Zealand collected Fidyah, Zakat-ul-fitr (Sadaqatul-fitr), Zakat-ul-mal, Sadaqah and contributions to emergency appeals.
“Charity was distributed to 16 countries, encompassing New Zealand, the Pacific, Asia (including Middle East and Türkiye) and Africa. Recipients included mustahiqeen (those entitled to receive Islamic charity), the victims of conflict, natural disasters, displacement and acute poverty,” said Mohammed Afiz.
“May Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala reward everyone for the charity they have given. We ask Him to guide us all to do even more in the future. We are grateful that Muslims in New Zealand and other countries have chosen Baitul Maal New Zealand as the channel for their charitable giving.”
Baitul Maal New Zealand is a registered charitable trust and is registered as a charity on the Charities Register. It is a member of the World Zakat and Waqf Forum, the global platform advocating the awareness of zakat. Baitul Maal New Zealand was established by the Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand (FIANZ) in 2011 to resurrect the Islamic Baitul Maal (“House of wealth”) system for the collection and distribution of Islamic charity and to introduce to New Zealand the concept of Waqf (perpetual trust for charitable purposes).
